The Return of Sherlock Holmes

Many of you have told me that the book was out of stock in many stores, so I have decided to scan the whole book so that you can read it and not be forced to choose "Bone" instead.

Moulin Rouge - Elephant Love Medley

This musical film was released in 2001. It tells the story of a young Scottish poetry writer, Christian (Ewan McGregor), who falls in love with the star of the Moulin Rouge, Satine (Nicole Kidman). It uses the musical setting of the Montmartre Quarter of Paris, France. at the beginning of the 20th century.

We are going to work with a song called "Elephant Love Medley". It marks the moment when Christian and Satine realise they are in love and they decide to have a relationship.
The song, like many others in the film, is a mixture of several popular songs. It includes:
  • Love Is Like Oxygen by Sweet
  • Love Is A Many-Splendored Thing by Frank Sinatra
  • Up Where We Belong by Buffy Sainte-Marie
  • All You Need Is Love by The Beatles
  • Lover's Game by Chris Isaak
  • I Was Made For Loving You by KISS
  • One More Night by Phil Collins
  • Pride (In The Name Of Love) by U2
  • Don't Leave Me This Way by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes
  • Silly Love Songs by Wings
  • Heroes by David Bowie
  • I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton (made famous by Whitney Houston)
  • Your Song by Elton John
This song is going to be very helpful to review modal verbs and future tenses. We are going to work with this worksheet:

This is the video of the song:

First of all you will listen to the song. Then, in pairs, you will try to complete the gaps, using modal verbs and future tenses. After that, you will listen to the song once more to check your answers.

In this other video, made by a fan of the movie, we can listen to the original fragments of the songs that appear in the medley.

I hope you like the song.

Good luck with your exams!
