Spooky Halloween

This week we are celebrating Halloween.

One of the most famous songs that comes to mind when thinking about this time of the year is "Thriller", by Michael Jackson.

I was looking for some activities to do with this song when I found an amazing video on Youtube. The user jesusfreak1623 has created a stopmotion recreation of the original videoclip using LEGO.
In this video you can watch both the original and the recreation:

Some of my classes will be doing this worksheet

Scientific Study Tips

Simple, nice video to learn some interesting facts about studying better.

Study tips and tricks

When you are at highschool, teachers tend to think that you already know how to study, but many times we find out that we shouldn't give this for granted.

One of the most popular pieces of advice is: stay away from your mobile phone...

but

what if your mobile phone could actually help you study?

In these series of videos you will see how your phones can be your allies when studying:

How to read a graphic novel - Bone

Thanks to this presentation we are going to learn how to read a graphic novel.

Meeting Bone

Do you know what a book trailer is? Well, it is more or less the same than a movie trailer. Thanks to this "Bone comic book trailer" we are going to meet the main characters.

Did you know that there's a videogame based on the comic book you are reading this term?

Here is the game trailer:

Bone

This is the book set for 4th ESO programa.

As you will see, it is not exactly a book, but a graphic novel.

I am going to introduce you to the character and to the graphic novel in case you are not sure what it is about:

Out From Boneville is the first book of the Bone series. It was first published by Cartoon Books on May 29,1995 in black and white. On February 1, 2005 Scholastic published it in color (by Steve Hamaker).
After being run out of Boneville, the three Bone cousins - Fone Bone, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone - are separated and lost in a vast, uncharted desert. One by one, they find their way into a deep forested valley filled with wonderful and terrifying, creatures. Eventually, the cousins are reunited at a farmstead run by tough Gran'ma Ben and her spirited granddaughter, Thorn. But little do the Bones know, there are dark forces conspiring against them and their adventures are only just beginning!

You can download the .pdf of the comic by clicking this link.
In the next few days I will upload the black and white version of the comic, in case you want to print it.

MAUS I, audiobook

1st Bachillerato students are going to read MAUS II, but knowing what happened in MAUS I could be really useful.
The Internet can be really useful, specially Youtube, and I have found that there is a channel called Graphic Novel Reader that has uploaded the whole comic book. In the videos, you can see the comic strips and there is a narrator who reads them aloud, with different sound effects.

I leave you the links here:

MAUS, more than just a comic book

1º Bachillerato will be reading MAUS this term.

Maus is a graphic novel by American cartoonist Art Spiegelman, serialized from 1980 to 1991. It depicts Spiegelman interviewing his father about his experiences as a Polish Jew and Holocaust survivor. The work represents Jews as mice and other Germans and Poles as cats and pigs. Critics have classified Maus as memoir, biography, history, fiction, autobiography, or a mix of genres. In 1992 it became the first graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize.
Here is the book trailer of the graphic novel:

In this link you can download the comic books.

New beginning

Last year I was working in IES Gacía Morato, in Madrid.

This year I am working in IES Luis de Góngora, in Torrejón de Ardoz.

I will not erase the contents for last year, but I need to modify some sections so that his blog can be useful for my new students.

I hope some of the contents will still be useful for my old students.
